This year’s National Restaurant Association, Hotel-Motel Show exhibit floor was filled with foods to delight a wide variety of show-goer tastes. Here is a list of the unique and delicious foods we saw trending on the Show floor.
This calorie-free, fat-free, gluten-free and low carb noodle, made with high-fiber yam flour and water, keeps you fuller longer and slows absorption of glucose due to its high-fiber content, making it great for people with diabetes or on a diet. At Show, I tasted these slippery suckers Thai-style with tofu. Although tasteless, NoOodles fully absorbs any flavor you cook it with and aren’t a bad substitution for all the pasta I tend to enjoy!
The Smoked Olive is produced in Sonoma County, California by creators Brenda Chatelain and Al Hartman, who began with the freshest, high quality California olive oil. Their new process imparts real wood-smoked flavor to the oil without degrading the delicate extra-virgin olive oil. My favorite of The Smoked Olive’s three distinct flavors is the Santa Fe Chili, the perfect marriage of heat and smoke, which has a delightful delayed kick of spice. Creator Hartman likes to use it as a marinade, in a baked potato or to finish off some grilled barbeque ribs.
New on the scene in California, this delicious collection of balsamic vinegars and olive oils was hard to pass up on the Show floor. Having an extensive variety, the balsamic vinegars are barrel aged up to 25 years in Italy and then shipped to Napa Valley where it is blended with the finest ingredients from around the world. I tasted the Original Balsamic, Rosemary Olive Oil and Blood Orange Olive Oil and they were fabulous! The combination of Raspberry Balsamic with Meyer Lemon Olive Oil would be perfect for a summer salad!
At first taste, Artisana Coconut Butter brought me into my favorite Thai restaurant. Coconut Butter is the whole raw flesh of pure organic coconut and, when warmed, ground into a delicious spread perfect for smoothies or even savory dishes, such as curry.
I love all kinds of shrimp: garlic shrimp, barbeque shrimp, Cajun shrimp and now a shrimp burger. CBS Food, Inc makes The Original Shrimp Burger in original, teriyaki, Cajun and jalapeño. Cooked and served to me by Chef Big Shake, Shrimp Burger is a delicious variation and also all natural, high in protein and made with no trans fat.
